Leatherman vs Victorinox — the number, the word, and the same fine print

The multi-tool record called the SwissTool the Wave+'s only serious rival and left the warranty comparison at a word: twenty-five years versus life. This record reads both warranty pages closely and finds the surprise in the fine print — the two promises are the same species. Neither covers normal wear; both cover the maker's defects. What actually separates the tools is $15, an ounce, a replaceable wire cutter, and one clause Victorinox's own product page leaves ambiguous.

Sixty years, two materials, one seam — the Lamy 2000

The third specific record on the Daily tools shelf, and the pen its opening note promised: the Lamy 2000, developed in 1966 with a former Braun designer and produced — by the maker's own count — for 58 years in the same polycarbonate and stainless steel. We bring the object back from the shelf it was crossed to, set the ~$9.30-a-year figure beside the multi-tool's $4.80 and the Cobra's $1.50, read the piston's bottled-ink economics from Lamy's own prices, and keep the honest verdict the loop was always going to close on: the $37 Safari stays the rational default, and the 2000 is bought for the design, not the arithmetic.
